The central component of any Omneon Spectrum system, the MediaDirector manages the flow of data to and from all other components in the system, including storage (Omneon MediaStores), real-time media (Omneon MediaPorts and MultiPorts) and network traffic (Gigabit Ethernet).
|
Media ingest, storage and playout are all coordinated through the MediaDirector, which manages bandwidth requirements to ensure that all real-time media I/O receives guaranteed, uninterrupted data throughput. The MediaDirector also manages the file system and provides software RAID capabilities to access and protect all data stored on the system's disk arrays. MediaDirectors access system storage arrays through multiple Fibre Channel loops, ensuring both resiliency and performance necessary for on-air operations. Interface to Omneon MediaPort and MultiPort audio and video I/O components is managed with multiple high-speed serial buses. This design provides maximum flexibility with regard to video format while also ensuring channel count scalability. A Gigabit Ethernet connection provides high-bandwidth data communication via SMB, FTP, and AFP (Apple File Protocol). MediaDirectors are available in two models to provide a choice of price points and system bandwidth and capacity. All MediaDirector units incorporate Omneon designed Smart Scalability, ensuring that any element of an Omneon Spectrum media server system can be expanded or re-configured at any time, without any disruptive upgrade process. Systems can be configured with the entry-level MCP 2100 and then add the higher-performance MCP 2101 as their system requirements grow.

MCP 2100
The MediaDirector MCP 2100 is an entry-level system unit designed to support configurations with up to 16 channels of real-time video I/O (subject to total system bandwidth load). Although the MCP 2100 is considered the entry level MediaDirector, it incorporates all aspects of the Omneon architecture, enabling full system scalability, reliability and flexibility. The MCP 2100 includes redundant power supplies with failover capability for maximum reliability.

MCP 2101
The MediaDirector MCP 2101 is the higher capacity system unit designed to support configurations with up to 32 channels of real-time video I/O (on a single MediaDirector, subject to total system bandwidth load). The MCP 2101 provides roughly twice the networking bandwidth and I/O connectivity and about 50% more Fibre Channel bandwidth for additional storage capacity.
