What HDMI 2.1 Could Mean for 8K, HDR

What is HDMI 2.1? The new standard for HDMI connectors was confirmed back in November 2017, but has yet to trickle down into mass-market television hardware. When it does though, it will mark a big step for both the AV industry and the home viewers wanting to get the most of their TV series, films, broadcasts, and gaming consoles.

FXLion has released the new NANOHUB, a Multi Voltage DC Input/Output Power HUB.

The NANOHUB is essential a power distribution box with various connections & voltage outputs to power multiple devices from a single power source. This is handy as you dont have to use multiple batteries for multiple devices.

Versatile Video Codec (H.266) standard finalised

Following three years of research, the Fraunhofer HHI (Heinrich Hertz Institute) has announced the new H.266 codec, also known as the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) codec, has been finalised. The H.266 codec is expected to to maintain the visual quality of the current H.265 codec, also known as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), but the file size is will be about 50 per cent smaller. That would mean the codec will be able to efficiently transport high-resolution content, such as 4K or 8K media, through mobile networks. It also supports HDR content and 360-degree videos.

High Frame Rates: the final piece in the Ultra HD jigsaw?

Under the broad banner of Ultra HD we have seen the commercial introduction of many improvements in video technology in recent years. Spatial resolution (4K), wide colour gamut (WCG), high dynamic range (HDR) and next-generation audio (NGA) all now feature regularly in consumer devices such as TVs, streamers and set-top boxes, as well as in services delivered by OTT providers and, albeit to a lesser extent, in linear broadcasts.
